A sign of better times...a few months ago, I would have been in court trying whatever nasty felony of the week was on the docket. A few weeks ago, I would have been wandering around the house in tears, wondering if I had made the biggest mistake of my life by moving here. Now I'm sitting home in my pajamas, hair all catawampus, eating spinach dip and corn chips for breakfast, working on the second chapter of my novel. Finally.

And don't go all Simon on me, Nick. I'm no writer. I'm just a person who likes to write. Really. ; - P

I'm probably going to start looking for part-time work fairly soon, so I'm packing every bit of laziness and junk food breakfasts that I can into the next few weeks!

I didn't know, I couldn't remember you mentioning what he did. I had a fantasy that the two of you were independently wealthy, or at any rate had enough to get by if you monitored it carefully. Ah well.

Ha! I wish I could impose your fantasy on my life! We're not nearly so glamorous...He's a middle manager for a large company...near as I can tell, his work is sort of like a Dilbert comic.

A person who likes to write--that's the first step.

And YOU ARE A WRITER, Catelin. A great one. Lilah was asking me if you and David would ever be coming out to the Cat to read again :)

Hee! Thanks, Joi. I'm just all about giving Nick crap now since he always writes such great posts that make me embarrassed of my own writing. I'll be the Kelly Clarkson of novelists! (Ok, I can't even say that as a joke without wretching! Blech!) ; )

Oh, I would LOVE to read again. You just let me know when and I'm soooo there!

And I would be so happy to see Lilah for longer than two seconds...I just saw her going out the door when we were at your place last time.

Congratulations on making it to the better times. I wish all the best for this new chapter (of your book and your life).

Thanks. I think that I'm definitely finding my way a bit more easily now, on all fronts. : )

Hey! : ) Would you send me your mailing address? I don't think I have it anymore and I'm itching to send some real mail.

Love you, Miz B.

If one were a writer they might have a piece of spinach in their teefs all day long after eating the dip and not have time to notice or have time to care.

A person who just likes to write, however, might be worried about the errant strand of spinach and check (read: edit) their teeth at least once or twice throughout the day.

Smile for us later, would ya? We won't tell ya either way ;)

ps: At any rate, whew! Congrats on being at this stage of things!!

I want spinach dip. Wah. I'm putting off cleaning the kitchen, because Alan cooked all day yesterday and it's a disaster.

Sure you don't want to come live in the basement? It's got a fireplace and four kitties to keep yours company. All you have to bring is Alan so he can cook for us! : )

That thought is oh so tempting... Alan made incredible food last night too.

my first trip w/o my parents to nyc, i took several rolls of film and most of them were of plants and animals in madison square park & the gulls & horizon at battery park :)
how far are you from manhattan (like in minutes by standard transport method)?
my little brother and his wife moved from everett (a town just north of here where he was stationed for a few years) to one of the burbs down there while he does merchant marine stuff, so.... wow i hope i can swing a trip out there this year yanno?

I'm only about an hour away, by either train or car. We usually get into the city fairly often since my in-laws live in Queens, but the cold weather just makes it miserable. Everyone keeps telling me to hang on through the winter because the spring will be spectacular. And, yeah, if you can get up here anytime it would be so great!!! Otherwise, I'm going to have to make a pilgrimage to the northwest one of these days!

"hair all catawampus"

I have no clue what this means, have never heard it before but *love* the mental image. Yep, you're a writer. Enjoy your dip :)

It's one of those words that came from your people that my people screwed up as to make it unrecognizable to its orginators. ; )

In the south, we use it generally to mean askwew and akimbo, all messed up and sticking out funny, that sort of thing.

Here's an interesting tidbit about it's origin. (http://phrases.shu.ac.uk/bulletin_board/10/messages/351.html)
