That's What Friends Are For?

You mean all I have to do to have a friend is press a button? Woohoo! I dunno...something kinda creepy and uncomfortable about that if I think about it too long. Who knows? Perhaps there's some sort of etiquette to this that I'm violating? Should I send a polite email first? "Hi. You don't know me, but you wrote something I [insert appropriate response here, followed by ingratiating pleasantry and request]." Shit!!! Welcome to the turmoil that the southern obsession with using the right fork at the dinner table can bring to one's everyday meanderings. So, for those of you who are wondering (if you even care) how you've ended up at the barrel-end of my little "friends" button, here are the *criteria by which you have been judged:

*Criteria subject to change given the cycle of the moon, the mood I'm in, and any other bullshit reason I happen to come up with*

Friends=Total Strangers Who (in any combination) Have:
Made me laugh
Made me raise my left eyebrow
Amused me
Learned how to use a dictionary
Read Richard Brautigan
Interested me
Made me feel like I needed a shower
Saddened me
Made me horny
Said something obscure that I actually understand
Cool pics
Not used cheeky cyber-jargon like "prolly" and "laterz"
The ability to form a complete sentence
Pissed me off
Graduated high school
Made me envious
Made me wish I were 5,10,15 years younger (lecherous "hehehe")
Disturbed me
Ga-roovy hair
Intrigued me
Actually spoken to me

And the beat goes on...

Well reading that list made me spit my very small but very chic and expensive Starbuck mint arcoss the room...very funny! Just for the record I have actually read a Richard Brautigan
novel although it was quite a while ago...I thought I'd mention just in case I am suddenly disqualified from friendship by my excessive use of the cyber spelling of cute (CYOOT) (not bloody likely!).
Ah well welcome...its an odd community...sometimes lots of crap and bickering (as with an human community...groan....but on the flipside there are some very creative intelligent people on Live Journal as well!)
I am adding you to my friends list in anticipation of some wonderful entries to come.

Well, I suppose anyone who's read Brautigan is entitled to the occasional cutsie cyber-spelling.
Laterz! (Teehee!)

pressing the button's just the beginning

hence it's a gesture uncommon amongst cowards. aye, raar. you'd think with the whole automatic out when you kick the bucket clause we'd be grabbing on to each other and anything in sight just to keep from spinning off the planet. eh, but there's good music, dies irae takes a nap.

Ok. So here's the plan, see? You grab onto me and I'll put one foot on the floor. I've heard that stops the spinning--at least until the hangover kicks in.

Hey,
what are some other books you'd recommend by Brautigan? I've got Hawkline Monster, but haven't seen any other stuff at all by him in the book store. Guess his peak in popularity was in the 70's or something like that...

Brautigan Stuff

[identity profile] catelin.livejournal.com 2000-11-30 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmmmm...I think my favorite would be "Trout Fishing in America", but it's hard to pick. I think his best poetry can be found in "The Pill versus the Springhill Mine Disaster." There's a great website that you can find the link for at my website. It's chock full 'o Brautigan info and excerpts.

Thanks. Sorry about posting duplicate reply; I'm still wading through the new maze of the livejournal. Each site is it's own puzzle, though once you've been over it once it's pretty easy.
