After four days of back-breaking 12-hour days, I'm finally moved and the old place is just a memory. The slumlord sent me several threatening letters demanding various amounts of money depending on her mood. I tolerated it for as long as I could, but finally ended up sending a nasty little missive to her on the intricacies of contract law. Haven't heard a peep from her since, other than a polite "thank you" for the balance of my last month's rent. I'm still surrounded by mountains of unpacked boxes but I'm gloriously happy and not quite convinced that this isn't some strange dream. I went back to work today, giddy and exhausted...desperately longing for the weekend.

You can bring Strummer to the housewarming party and drop him off for summer vacation. ; )

you're home now.

i figured that your disappearence was due to moving, or maybe you mentioned it...i'm fuzzy on that right now.

congratulations on the new house! i can only imagine how exciting and liberating (forgetting about the payment schedule for a minute) it would be.

and whats great is your boys (and you too, of course) will have a house where they can put down roots. that's something i really feel is important. although not necessary, its so nice to be rooted and attached to a specific PLACE. i have recently moved back into my childhood neighborhood and i didn't realize how wonderful it would be until all the dust from moving had settled. my son goes to school at the same school i went to. he swims at the YMCA where i used to swim. he plays in the same park i played in daily. its sort of strange, but definitely very cool to have that sense of place.

and your ex-landlord is funny, sending an attorney a threatening letter! teehee!

have fun settling in.

Re: you're home now.

Perfect! You put into words exactly what I am most elated about. I didn't grow up here, but I did spend a good part of my childhood and adolescence nearby with my grandparents three months out of every year. When I came back to Texas, I deliberately chose this area because it held the happiest memories for me and I wanted my children to have some of that same magic. I am most proud of myself for staking out our claim in a place where my kids can grow their own wonderful memories.

What are you talking about trouble??? It's always good to see your face around my neighborhood. ; ) Thanks for the good wishes. You are so sweet...too bad you live so far away. The matchmaker in me just salivates over all the good potential you'd have for some of my friends. Hehe!

Congratulations on your new home, sweet home on the range, where the deer and the antelope raise their martinis in salute. What marvelous feelings you must be enjoying right now.

you rule cate.

I remember the house we had in MN.

Since both H and I were working like dogs, we had a bedroom that was filled with nothing but pack, unnecessary crappy.

To sell the house and make it appear bigger, we moved all of it, all with a heaping helping from around the house to the basement.

Glad to have you back.

you've been missed.

(note the time. I don't want to be up now, but the new Lord of the mannor insists. he seems to feel it is his RIGHT to not have to sleep in a poopy diaper... I suppose he is his father's son.)

thanks darlin'.

Your ability to do this alone has raised my assesment of the level of your character into the relm of sainthood.

Congratulations on your move! With luck, we'll close without any problems and follow suit soon. I feel much sympathy for anyone else in "box mode" at this point. I'd love to hear more about the new house when things settle down a bit for you.

I was amazed at how stressful it all was...even though I was beside myself with sheer glee. I will probably be showing off a bit once I get things a little more ordered. It's a great house though...custom built for this old couple. It's stucco, on two lots (huge yards in back and front) about 1400 square feet (not including an oversized two-car garage). There's a floored attic for even more storage. Saltillo tile floors through most of the house, except for the 3 bedrooms. Solid oak cabinets all over and solid oak doors throughout. Crown molding through the whole house. High ceilings. A big walk-in closet for the clothes whore in me. A giant deck and a goldfish pond with a fountain in the back. It's the exact house I would have built for myself. I'm still reeling from my luck in finding it!

Re:

That sounds absolutely amazing. What good luck! Jeff and I are already trying to figure out how we can make a jacuzzi under a gazebo happen in our new back yard... there are sliding glass doors from the master bedroom into the yard, and we have these visions of stepping out of the bedroom and heading straight for the warm water. :)

I'll catch some zzzzz's in honor of you and your gal! I was jonesin' for Hollywood when I read your post about the Cat & Fiddle...one of my former haunts. The more things change, the more they stay the same....so true it's weird.
