Will the ghost of Wendy O please return from the grave with a chainsaw and do something about this? I think I'm gonna yak. It's true. Getting old is just ugly and frightening sometimes.
i have a friend who works for the subscription department at rolling stone...she's already dreading the angry letters from prisoners when they aren't allowed to view this issue. god help us all.
post scriptum: heh, i just typed latin to an attorney! anyway, i was just thinking about wendy's stellar performance in "reform school girls" last night. thanks for the synchronicity. oh, but that's the last time sting made decent music and that's another story indeed ;)
Hehehe! That's too bad, because the only thing that would make me feel better about this picture is knowing a bunch of prisoners are beating off to Christine's naughty lil' fauxhawk. ; )
Awwwghgh!!! You said the D-word! I had completely forgotton about her! Reform School Girls was a hoot. But Sting...don't even get me started on him. He's reached poser nirvana, dude.
Oh, yeah...that's what's truly sickening---imagining the twisted little fucks who have no eyes to see what's wrong with this picture. Sad, sad. Oh, and I have a Little House⢠in the woods. Anytime you feel like taking a drive, head out east on I-10 and look for the bats. I keep a guest room just for those who need a bit an escape from the real world.
I've been out of the loop with that scene. I was into Plasmatics in the early-mid 80s, and got bored with punk by the late 80s as I developed an interest in early-mid 20th C. recorded music.
Hm. Anyway, that picture in rolling stone reminds me that pop magazines always co-opt the fringe. They did it to hippy, glam, early new wave, grunge, hiphop, and countless other subgenres. Of course, SPIN is even worse that way. At least with Rolling Stone one could say, "I read it for the articles."
Yeah, the scene was pretty dismal in its decline. I can certainly appreciate why you'd decide it was time to move on to something more interesting. I love your music files, btw...I'm a regular at your site. : )
That's the perfect definition of Pop! Co-option of the fringe is precisely what it has always been, I think. I haven't read Rolling Stone in years...and I mean literally since the 70s. The last thing I remember reading in RS was a big article about Karen Silkwood (gawd, am I that old???). I picked up a copy of SPIN the last time I was in an airport, and it was practically unreadable.

That has nothing to do with age. That has everything to do with Western Civilization's last shread of remaining dignity.
If Wendy O isn't around, I wonder if Tura Satana would be willing to kick her ass.
