It's hard to think of January as the beginning of the year. It always seems so very much the middle for me. Fall, a season that generally marks the end of things for most people, has always been my marker for the beginning of another year. I suppose that beginnings are always just a matter of perspective. The same can probably be said of endings as well. If I am resolved to do anything this year, it is to be more aware of the possibility of both. Life is more and more quicksilver to me with each passing year.

I agree with you about having difficulty thinking of January as the beginning of the year. Spring has always been the beginning of my year....partially due to my upbringing (my mother is Persian and the Persian New Year is the Spring Solstic) and also because I'm a May Baby. Also, Spring is so incredibly in-your-face symbolic of new life and beginnings, and ever so blunt me relates to that. Typically if I make any kind of "resolutions" in January, I don't put them into play until springtime anyway....

Having said that - I hope that calendar year 2006 is one that is filled with joy for you and incredible wealth of the the spirit and soul.

Happy New Year, Cate. I didn't send a single card this year, but I wish you and yours the very, very best.

Oh, I hardly ever manage to send out cards, so don't worry! Happy New Year to you to, dear friend. I wish you a year of all sorts of wonder and adventure.
