   I fell in love with this band almost 15 years ago. I'm still in groupie fangirl lust with every one of these guys. They are everything I adore about Mexico rolled up into a music soup: badass chilango attitude mixed with a sincere and profound love for the traditional, the doble sentido personified, laughing and crying all at once. The old gods of Naucalpan would be pleased.

2. documentaries:
   I'm obsessed with documentaries, as most of my stories come from small snippets of people's lives. They inspire me to get to the heart of the human experience in things. They show me things that I would never see, small stories that I would miss. They connect me with the world in a very powerful way.
3. harry dean stanton:
   One of the old school originators of the rugged, tragic, down and out sort of sex appeal that made for many of my most horrible relationships.
4. laughing:
   I laugh at just about everything, most of all myself.
5. modigliani:
   The first artist whose work made me want to paint.
6. peppers:
   Hot, hot, hot!! The hotter the better!
7. richard brautigan:
   Deer Tracks

8. silvio rodriguez:
   One of the best nueva trova artists to ever come out of Cuba. His music is like cool white wine and green damp grass in summertime.
9. troubadours:
   Old time, new age...it doesn't matter to me. Whether it's Townes Van Zandt or Sordello makes no difference. They were all troublemakers, with their crazy ideas of chivalry and courtly love. ; )
10. writing:
    May as well say "breathing." It's what I do, every day. One of these days it might actually come to something.

I love documentaries. I recently saw In the Realms of the Unreal (http://www.realmsoftheunreal.com/). It just shows you how we all have a story, even the most invisible amongst us.

I haven't seen that! I'll have to check it out! I'll think of some of my favorites and come back with a list. I don't have time to do it up right since I'm on my way out of town for a couple of days. : )

So what's your favorite Harry Dean Stanton movie? Paris, Texas? Repo Man, Escape from New York? I love him in everything.

I love him in Where the Lillies Bloom and The Missouri Breaks too. Repo Man is one of my favorite movies, even without him! Paris, Texas was a brilliant performance. Like you, I love him in everything. He actually used to play in a bar that some friends of mine owned in L.A. He drank too much (I have no idea whether he ever got a handle on that), smoked too much, and sang the blues. He was the kind of trouble it took me years to learn to stay away from.
