Skates and Cherries

Skate practice last night was a blast!! We do public skates on Tuesdays from 7-9pm at the Rollercade. The rink owner, Verna, couldn't help it...she's grown to love us, in spite of her best efforts to be cranky and suspicious. I asked her what size t-shirt she wears and she grinned like a little kid. We're definitely making a home for ourselves there and it's fun goofing and playing with the little ones. We even have groupies now! Guys who stand around and try to look like they are not looking! It cracks me up!

We got our deal pretty much finalized for closed practices every week at the rink. I'm so proud of all the hard work that we've done in such a short amount of time. It's great to see it finally paying off in big ways.

The night got even better when my new friend and lovely birthday girl tomaxblade showed up to hang out. I bonded with one of the girls' beaus by singing "Shock the Monkey" with him at the top of my lungs. Shared idiocy is the super glue of friendship, I say!! We all ended up at Mr. Taco, having all sorts of silly fun. Oh, and then we got to call the cops on some dickhead who was trying to force his wife into a car against her will. We didn't stay to see what happened, but I'm hoping it ended with a trip to the pokey for that dude.

I ended up home late, but happy. This morning was court and this afternoon was translating at lightning speed (simultaneous) that just about had my tongue in knots by the time it was all over! And I did it with a Lifesaver in my mouth for most of the hearing! Go me! That's got to be the linguistic equivalent of tying a dozen cherry stems or something! There must be something to that whole foreign language thing. Bailiffs that barely give me a glance when I'm in court for attorney business sit slack-jawed and drooling with happy smiles when I'm translating. Maybe they get that it's a cherry stem thing too?!?
