Summertime

I returned on Saturday from what will soon be my new home. The trip was a wonderful blur of good food, new family, and glimpses of life to come. I sat in the night air, watching my kids walk hand-in-hand with David's dad to get Italian ices. I listened to the three of them talking like they'd known each other forever. Who knew that two little boys could have so much in common with a soft-spoken 68-year-old man? Who could have imagined that grandfathers can be made from such an unexpected but perfect combination of love, acceptance, a bit of shaved ice, and the light of fireflies on a warm summer evening?
