Be wicked, be brave, be drunk, be reckless, be dissolute, be despotic,
be an anarchist, be a religious fanatic, be a suffragette, be anything you like, but for pity's sake be it to the top of your bent. Live-- live fully, live passionately, live disastrously au besoin.

Violet Trefusis to Vita Sackville-West, October 1918

bravo!

That excerpt always puts me in mind of this poem...

"Always be drunk.
That's it!
The great imperative!
In order not to feel
Time's horrid fardel
bruise your shoulders,
grinding you into the earth,
Get drunk and stay that way.
On what?
On wine, poetry, virtue, whatever.
But get drunk."

AH! I just pulled out my copy of "From Violet to Vita (collected letters)" last night....I felt that after owning it for 4 freaking years I should finally get around to reading it!

Addendum: Of course I was going through my books looking for the LJ Bookclub selection this month--Magic Mountain....which I have YET to find...ah well.

Haha! I was combing through my books (the several dozens I have laying about but haven't managed to read yet) when I saw that the selection was Magic Mountain. I think it's probably in the garage...which means I'm as likely to find it as I am to make a late spring expedition to the South Pole. I am definitely going to keep an eye out for the next bookclub selection, though. Any ideas yet? So I can start looking, like....now! Hehehe!

I love that so much.

ah, to be beautiful. Then I could be cruel.

And therein lies the paradox, for if you were cruel you would no longer be beautiful. ; )

'be anything you like, but for pity's sake be it to the top of your bent. Live-- live fully, live passionately, live disastrously au besoin'

words of wisdom, Lloyd, words-of-wisdom.

Before my wife and I started living together, she gave me a T-shirt her department (english, of course) was selling to raise money. I was a quote by Mark Twain:

"I never let Schoolin' get in the way of my education."

I have no idea why your quote made me think of that.

Your wife sounds so darn groovy cool, I wish I'd married her!! So is a St. Paddy's baby in the works still?

Re:

well, that is the day that is the official due date... At her last exam, she was still 50% effaced, and her OBGYN said she was likely to go long...

Heather says she doesn't 'feel' close (Since I have a penis, I have no idea what this means)...

Re:

thanks...

Oliver Orange, actually.

Orange comes from H's Great^4 grandfather. He was a man who was disowned by his wealthy Boston family for marrying a Catholic girl...

During the course of his life, he tried to get rich doing many things, not the least of which was the CA gold rush.
