Well, it's 4:20am and I've been up for about an hour...strange, considering how much I like to sleep. Looks like I'll be napping in my office at lunch today. The boys crawled into bed with me last night and the little one snores enough to shake the rafters so I finally just gave up and came into the kitchen for some tea. After my nasty landlords' letter regarding the ungodly raise in my rent, I decided to take the plunge and apply for a mortgage loan....and, oddly enough...I am now pre-approved for a loan and can start looking for a place to buy!!! Funny how things always work out when I least expect them to...now I can tell the slumlords to go fuck themselves AND have my little dream house. I sure love how life is always full of surprises.

Re: Haha!

Yeah...but I don't mind, especially since I am barely going to be able to get together the down payment even at 3%. I'm still giddy at the prospect of not flushing $800 a month down the toilet each month (soon to be $950...at least until I tell the Potters to kiss my boooo-tay! ; )

Re: Haha!

There's nothing wrong with FHA loans, it's just that sometimes the restrictions on the houses can be a little ridiculous (kind of a pain in the ass for a handy fellow such as myself).

The upside to these restrictions is you are CERTAIN to get a house that is pretty much hassle free...

Hey you!

Congratulations on the house buying approval thang. Commiserations on being awake right now. Apologies for my crap spelling.

Thanks! Well, I went to bed right after I posted...typing in the middle of the night apparently makes me sleepy. : )

Re: Hey you!

Am pleased for you though. I used to rent and it was, don't know how best to put it, insecure I think, not safe, cozy, oh I don't know - you know what I mean?

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. No matter how "homey" a place is, unless it's really yours...it's just not the same.

houses are wonderful things

Oh how nice to finally know that someone is having some good luck! Yay! I hope you find a wonderful house. I see my dream house every day on the bus route but I don't think I will ever get to live there. It's an old brick place on 35th just off Mopac, not in the best spot. But it does have lovely big windows and a porch and a balcony. Mmm house.

oooohhhhh congrats! and woohoo

Odd...I had new house dreams last night...of course being a dream there was a twist. It was actually a new house slash coffee bar and annoying customers kept coming in for lattes while I was kissing my hunky/dream-induced/soapstar perfect boyfriend...ok time to stop eating power bars for dinner!

Re:

Note to self: Ask realtor if hunky dreamboat boyfriend and latte machine is included in price. ; )

Oh, Cate!!! That's wonderful news!!!

We just bought our first home last year.....and it is soo nice to know I can paint the walls any color I want! (hehe......and I did too!!)
I don't want to give ya any unwanted advice, but just from experience, I fell in love with our house, but wished I had looked more closely at the surrounding neighbors! Unknown to us, we had a drug house kitty corner to us.....and the foot traffic and grief it caused lasted a year......and now they are finally gone and the neighborhood is so incredibly quiet!! I don't want to freak you out about the unknowns, just thought I would pass on the one piece of advice I wish someone would have shared with me.. :)
Keep us posted on the home search! How fun and exciting!! :) wisteria

Well, with my job, I usually know way more than I want to about my fellow residents...but that's sound advice! I am very excited and look forward to finally being able to paint a mural on my kids' wall! ; )

art attacks

a mural, now that's a funky ass thing to do! my mum is really into her art (she's about to start an art degree and she's in her 60s!) and lately she's been grabbing pieces of wooden furniture from around the house and painting and decorating and doing all sorts of weird things to them. i think im gonna suggest the idea of a mural to her today.

Good for your mom! I love painting! I can't wait to have a nice clean wall that is mine, all mine, to muck about with! : )

Re: art attacks

i think if i ever ended up in a position where i was gonna paint a mural and i was standing in front of a huge blank wall i'd end up thinking to myself 'im never ever gonna be able to do this' and just grab a load of paint tins and launch them onto the wall with a bamboo sling-hook before standing back with the words 'jackson' and 'pollock' on my lips ready for anybody who dares to suggest a certain 'randomness' to my designs. hey maaaan, it's, like, a LITERAL stream of conscience, dontchaknow?

Ha! That reminds me of one of my favorite scenes from a movie called "If Lucy Fell." It's a little sappy but it has some hilarious bits with Ben Stiller as an artist named Bwick.
