A friend and I were talking today about what we notice when we first meet someone. What it is that flips that synaptic connection in our brain to the hormones of "yea" or "nay." For her it was the eyes. I told her that I liked noses. It's not like I have some sort of nose fetish. It's just that for me, it is the nose that makes the face. I like a big nose, a long nose, an aquiline nose. No cute little pixie noses, no upturned snouts. I want more than just a couple of holes sittin' on a face. I like a NOSE...a Gabriel Byrne nose, a Jean Reno nose, even a Gerard Depardieu nose. Of course, my friend was quick to point out that maybe my choice in noses was proportional to the length of my own. Perhaps...but I like my own nose too. I had the chance to get a nose job a few years ago after an unfortunate collision with someone's kitchen floor. Only time in my life I've ever fainted--in the Valley at some launch party for a cheesy German metal label. I was trapped in a room with too much smoke, shitty music, glam hair, and not enough oxygen to the brain. I did a full-on swan dive right onto the parquet. The doctor told me that my insurance would cover the whole procedure if I wanted to have "some work done." I did think about it for a few minutes. I ultimately decided that I'd rather have my old nose with a new bump than a face that looked vaguely familiar but wasn't mine. I told my friend that I didn't think it was so much that I wanted a nose similar to my own...I mean I'm short and fair, and I tend to like taller, swarthy types...the old opposites attract thing. I tried to explain that even a pair of dreamy eyes set aside a small child-like schnozzle just made me think of Wilbur, or worse...Bobby Brady. There's no explaining taste, I guess. But for this lifetime, those with the "petite proboscis" are safe from my fawning attention...but if you've got nice eyes, I have a friend who'd love to meet you.

Sigh....Jean Reno....so gruff looking yet his acting exposes such a sensitivity.

Mais, oui!

He's gorgeous, isn't he? And a wonderful combination of pain and humor in his acting that's so endearing...the only other actors I can think of with that same talent for combining such two completely opposed sentiments are Charlie Chaplin and Roberto Benigni.

i dunno what specifically gets me to notice a person in 'that way', most people don't register until i find out they're groovy, so i guess you could say if the give good conversation :) ince i get the idea to actually start noticing the person, the stuff that'ss draw me in 'that way' are deep voices, large strong hands, sensuality (i love watching people who are so sensual it comes out in their movements, statements, actions, choices, style, etc, i'm sort of a dork about it b/c what'll really groove my horseshoe is imagining i'm the only one who notices, so i tend to looke for something subtle i, the egoiste, could unleash - ye verily quite dorky, though outright sensuality works ok too, latin dance classes are great for being in a room full of these people), something dark (can't explain), and i'm a sucker for long hair on the right person, long hair on someone w/no pre-existing draw doesn't register other than i notice oh hey they have long hair. i dunno, there's always just a moment someone does something or we've talked and something is said and i realise i'm dealing with someone like me - then i'll start noticing, and looking. i have noticed the more someone looks'feels/thinks/acts like i imagine i do or the rockstar me in my mind, the more likely i am to notice them 'that way'. for the most part i don't want, so i don't look for it, i find longing or desire to be a pain in the ass and i'm way too much of a hyperromantic to not end up there if i wander on in.

I'm very much the same way...a fellow dork, for sure. There are lots of things that draw me to a person (timbre of voice, nice forearms, brains, attitude, etc.), but I tend not to go any further than a "hmmmmm...nice" thought unless someone practically shows up on my doorstep with the HEY I DIG YOU sign. I'm too busy to notice most of the time; the rest of the time, I simply don't want to go there.

*laughs* That was rather cute. I don't know any guys that would fit either of your search criteria, but I'll keep an eye out. ;)
