One of my favorites from one of my favorites...

Never Give All The Heart

Never give all the heart, for love
Will hardly seem worth thinking of
To passionate women, if it seem
Certain, and they never dream
That it fades out from kiss to kiss;
For everything that's lovely is
But a brief, dreamy, kind delight.
O never give the heart outright,
For they, for all smooth lips can say,
Have given their hearts up to the play.
And who can play it well enough
If deaf and dumb and blind with love?
He that made this knows all the cost.
For he gave all his heart and lost.

You're Welcome

I've always loved this poem. There's a beautiful reading of it by Brenda Fricker on The Chieftans' Tears of Stone CD.

Ah! I was just going to ask if you were familiar with the Brenda Fricker/Anuna/Chieftains' version of that!

Lovely, lovely stuff.

Now, why does it not surprise me that you already knew this? Anyone with the smarts to dig g.g. and bruce would of course be down with the chieftans, baby! ; )

Hah! Well, we've just got great taste, don't we? Speaking of Bruce Campbell, the girl, her friend from out of town, my friend Thor, and I went to be extras in the Spider Man movie being directed by Sam Raimi last week. Bruce Campbell was in the scene, as well as Randy Savage -- who went to high school with my mom!

Weird, small, small world, eh?

It's definitely worth getting. I haven't listened to it for a while, but there's all sorts of good stuff on it--various female artists singing with The Chieftans. Really beautiful.

oops

Sorry.. just wanted to correct my misspelling of The Chieftans.

I'm wondering if you started worrying, in your latest post, about misspellings because I planted the subliminal seed of spelling here.

Re: oops

Ha! Actually, you spelled it right the first time...It's "Chieftains." I'm the one that can't spell. Well, I can spell, but only after I've already submitted something that I can't edit. : )

the lake isle of innisfree

i will arise and go now, and go to innisfree,
and a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;
nine bean-rows will i have there, a hive for the honey-bee,
and live alone in the bee-loud glade.

and i shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
dropping from the veils of morning to where the cricket sings;
there midnight's all a glimmer, and moon a purple glow,
and evening's full of the linnet's wings.

i will arise and go now, for always night and day
i hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
while i stand on the roadway, or on the pavement's grey,
i hear it in the deep heart's core.
