Ok, so I'm sitting here feeling like the Venus of Willendorf after all the goodies I've consumed the last couple of days...four fat cats covering my feet. They're exhausted from me fending them off of my spiked eggnog for most of the night, poor old things. Well, another year's about to have rolled by and that means it's time for Cate's recap of the year 2000.

Coolest Presents: A Chinese brush painting set and an Onion calendar from my mother

Grooviest Trip: Manhattan last January

Best New Friend: My dear sweet jack-in-the-box Val

I Knew Better: Brief fling with a stodgy old Englishman

Best Surprise: Email from my 88-year-old grandfather (who's become quite the cyber cowboy)

Still Bothers Me: Court case where I sent a guy to prison for 25 years for dope...fuckin' minimum sentences!! Write your congressmen!!!

Rediscovery: Found an old photo of myself that my dad took when I was about 5 years old, rollerskating, falling, happy as a lark

Saddest Moment: Amazing Grace on the bagpipes at a funeral for a friend

Daily Joy: My boys with their smiles, questions, ideas, laughter, l-o-v-e

Still Gotta: Figure out a way to buy this house I've been squatting in for three years now

New Skills: Candlemaking and html

Accomplishment: Grew all my own veggies this year

All in all, it's been a very good year...full of everything that a life oughta be full of--color, light, magic, sounds, shadows, textures, smells, a little yearning, a large dose of humor and very little regret. Here's to more of that good stuff!!! Bring it on, Father Time!!!
