Mountain Pose

Who I am does not change according to whatever way the political winds blow. I've spent a lifetime getting around the man, helping others do the same, working within and without the system for change, always speaking up when it mattered. I live my morality. It may not be what much of the country would like to shove down my neck, but I am consistent. One election will not change in me what several others have not. One election will not cut off the hand I extend to my brothers and sisters. One election will not defeat my sense of hope, even as it renews my sense of shame. But no matter, I will go on being who I am, fighting for the causes I believe in, and never compromising myself. I will not abandon who I am and what I can do. One hundred times one hundred motherfucking elections will not change that.

Amen! Thanks for that. I'm as upset as anyone, but I don't think people should look at this like it's the end of the world. It's more of a wake up call as to the direction a large portion of this country is moving in. I don't think any of us had realized how bad it had truly gotten until the results of this election started to roll in. Perhaps now people will get more involved in hands-on activities and grass roots organizations and really strive to make some changes. koaloha (http://www.livejournal.com/users/koaloha) made quite a powerful post about this subject this morning, too. I think you might like it.

Thanks for directing me that way. I think if people would stop their handwringing and/or gloating, we could just move on and get down to the business of living our values, rather than wearing them like fancy Sunday church hats.

Yes! Yes! The clothing-rending is just so...

... things have needed to change for a long while.

I'm with ya and am posting many of these same thoughts.

adding you, btw!

I think that's an excellent way of putting it. Many people do indeed wear their values like hats or ridiculous costumes. Live your values and let me live mine...supposedly the ideal our country was founded upon though it's never really been that way, has it?

Anyway, thanks for your post. I'm glad to see quite a few people trying to move forward and get the positive out of this instead of dwelling and complaining.
