Who I am does not change according to whatever way the political winds blow. I've spent a lifetime getting around the man, helping others do the same, working within and without the system for change, always speaking up when it mattered. I live my morality. It may not be what much of the country would like to shove down my neck, but I am consistent. One election will not change in me what several others have not. One election will not cut off the hand I extend to my brothers and sisters. One election will not defeat my sense of hope, even as it renews my sense of shame. But no matter, I will go on being who I am, fighting for the causes I believe in, and never compromising myself. I will not abandon who I am and what I can do. One hundred times one hundred motherfucking elections will not change that.

Amen! Thanks for that. I'm as upset as anyone, but I don't think people should look at this like it's the end of the world. It's more of a wake up call as to the direction a large portion of this country is moving in. I don't think any of us had realized how bad it had truly gotten until the results of this election started to roll in. Perhaps now people will get more involved in hands-on activities and grass roots organizations and really strive to make some changes. koaloha (http://www.livejournal.com/users/koaloha) made quite a powerful post about this subject this morning, too. I think you might like it.

Thanks for directing me that way. I think if people would stop their handwringing and/or gloating, we could just move on and get down to the business of living our values, rather than wearing them like fancy Sunday church hats.

I think that's an excellent way of putting it. Many people do indeed wear their values like hats or ridiculous costumes. Live your values and let me live mine...supposedly the ideal our country was founded upon though it's never really been that way, has it?

Anyway, thanks for your post. I'm glad to see quite a few people trying to move forward and get the positive out of this instead of dwelling and complaining.

Keep the faith, sister. We'll see good things come to pass in our lifetime. And you and I, we've got the tools to really get under the skin of these pricks. : )

Glad it does, friend. We need to remember who we all are. We're not a group, we are living, breathing people whose loudest and proudest messages come from simply being who we are...in the face of whatever comes.

I still hang on your words and these made me feel better. I still want to pinch someone but instead I'll just have a cuppa and a cookie and get on with my badself.

PS

Do you remember you once sent me ylang ylang + pink grapefruit bath salts? I made soap with those scents and that flavor is my absofrickenlootly favorite.

I have been lurking as well. And I've missed you. : )

Yay for soap!! Oh, I bet that is delicious! I'm going to make some stuff soon, maybe we can swap some stuff?

would you mind an addition to yr friendsies list? i know you like keeping a trim friends list, so if you'd prefer not to (!!!!), i can dig it.

yes, i'd LOVE to swap some goodies. we learned how to make lip balm that is marvelous and my goat-milk honey soap is creamy and delicious. it smells just like bit-o-honey candy bars.

Beautifully said. Other people are sitting around whining and bitching and you come through it all and say something like this. Thank you for it :)

Ha! Well, I do my share of bitching and whining too. ; ) I think that people will begin to remember who they are once the rawness of everything wears off a bit.

You can't imagine what it means for someone like me, living in South America, where everyday life is largely decided in accordance with what goes on in Washington, to be in touch, on whatever level, with an American who can express so much dignity in just a few words. May God bless the likes of you endlessly.

Thanks, Leo. It means a lot to me that people who don't live in this country understand that we are not our politicians.
