I truly believe that the internet is going to be the closest thing to time travel I ever experience. I look at it and think of all of the people who l now know in the flesh (admittedly I know more flesh for some than others) that I first encountered in the virtual world. It's still amazing to me after more than a decade. Last week I lunched with the fabulous and funny [livejournal.com profile] nandan, knowing without a doubt that we will definitely hang out again. And last night, [livejournal.com profile] tamperevident and company (had to get my obscure Oscar reference in somewhere) came over to watch the Academy Awards. It was so much nicer putting up with all the bloated pomposity of it all when I myself was stuffed with delicious crepes made by my guest (How lucky am I that someone comes over and cooks for me?) wine, and spiked coffee. Not much to say about the Oscars. It was painful watching Bill Murray squirm after his loss. He doesn't look like someone who finds it easy to be gracious. I did have episodes of slobbering over Sean Penn and John Cusack, but that's nothing new. Mostly, my kitchen smelled of good things cooking and my front room was made even more comfortable by the company sitting on my couch. And none of it, not a single moment of it, would have ever happened if it had not been for this infernal machine and the circuits and wires by which I open my window to the rest of the world each day.
