I am now a member of the Morris Plains knitting group. It's a made up of bunch of old gals with fabulous names like Dottie, Loraine, and Rita. My grandmothers taught me how to sew and crochet like an expert. By the time I got around to knitting, one grandmother was gone and another was too ill to teach me anymore. I felt such a sense of satisfaction tonight, knitting (not even bothering to purl at this point) a fat, black chenille scarf while I listened to the ladies gossip. Every Wednesday evening, I will spend an hour or so in the company of these grandmothers, nourishing my spirit with their voices and my memories.
