I came home the other day to find John on the couch, giving me a weird thumbs up with one hand. We kept talking as I blew in the door with the kids. I was running back and forth, trying to get changed, telling him about my day. And then I realized that he was still giving me the Fonz.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

Turned out it wasn't the thumbs up. It was the "ummm, I cut my thumb with an X-acto knife right before you got home and well, don't freak out or anything but I think I might need stitches" thumb.

He did. Four on the side. I got to watch, though. I've never seen a live person stitched up before. Cool, and yet sort of disgusting. No way I could ever have been a doctor.

Blargh! You know I can watch the goriest of movies back to back for hours and days on end. If I see real gore or blood I freak out.

hah, I'm such a veteran of maiming myself it's not even funny. My mother should have bought shares in Band Aid. The best was when the hospital had to give me laughing gas simply to take my mind off the real anaesthetic they wanted to inject in my ruined toe, before they could set about patching it back up. Let me tell you, laughing gas gets you seriously high.

Did they shoot him up with Lydocaine? That's the hardest part for me to watch. The rest is pretty cool.

Speedy recovery, John!

It's on his right, so that makes you dopplegangers of one another!

You look through court photographs of abused children while having lunch, but you get squicked by a finger being stitched up? That's so strange.

I know, right? I think because when I look at things like that, it's already happened. Dead bodies, photos of injuries, stuff like that doesn't bother me. Even autopsies (although they make me slightly queasy in person) don't freak me out as much as a live person being worked on.

ouch! Hope it heals ok.
You know what? I watched a doctor stitch my own arm once and was fine, but when my son needed a few stitches above his eye I almost fainted!
